    Great Stuff
    By Cortlandt Winters
One of the most enjoyable programming books I've read in recent years.

Part of this may come from hapi itself. I've read about 4 books covering node with express and found them generally to be very focused on creating toy demoware by example without focusing on the higher level concepts of how to architect a real application.

A lot of the knowledge of how to build a real web app with node is spread about in folk knowledge and thousands of repositories, but hapi focuses on the important stuff in a few dozen well tested repositories and this book explains that important stuff. The plug-in architecture, the request lifecyle, authentication, caching and security, logging and monitoring in particular.

I love how the author took the time to draw nice diagrams for many concepts. Sometimes a concept is best understood in prose, sometimes in code and sometimes a diagram. He balances when to use each really well, often mixing snippets of code in the diagram at the right point.

As a result, after you've read through the book once, having a variety of visual things on the page makes it really easy to scan and review. It's hard to review a wall of text, but easy to glance at these pages with their mixture of visual display elements for appropriate things and retain them.
