About the Author
Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D., became the chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1984 at the age of 33, making him the youngest major division director in the hospital's history. He has written and published nine books, four of which were co-authored with Candy, his wife of 40 years. Dr. Carson was the recipient of the 2006 Spingarn Medal. In June 2008, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. U.S. News Media Group and Harvard's Center for Public Leadership recognized Dr. Carson as one of "America's Best Leaders" in 2008. In 2014, the Gallup Organization, in their annual survey, named Dr. Carson as one of the 10 Most Admired Men in the World.
Dr. Carson and his wife are co-founders of the Carson Scholars Fund, which recognizes young people of all backgrounds for exceptional academic and humanitarian accomplishments. In addition, Dr. Carson is now the Honorary National Chairman of the My Faith Votes campaign and continues to work tirelessly for the cause of the American people.

I thank God that He gave us Dr. Carson

I just finished ready Think Big; I couldn't put the book down. I became interested in knowing more about Dr. Carson after watching the movie Gifted Hands, which I stumbled upon on Netflix. I have also heard Dr. Carson on the radio when he sat in for Sean Hannity and I can tell you sincerely that I never tire of listening to him. This book Think Big is a humble autobiography of how he achieved accolades he enjoys today because of the people who God placed in his life - especially the absolutely magnificent, wise and loving mother. For anyone who is feeling "down in the dumps," read this book, you won't stay their long. I read a review from someone who was upset that this book is about how Dr. Carson prays before performing his surgeries - the person only gave this book 1 star; what an ignorant person this is. This book is what our lives should be about, gaining knowledge everyday, inspiring others to achieve, doing our best - no matter what job you are at, and to remember, that to God we are special and He wants us to succeed and will be there to help us always - if we want him to. This book should be required reading in school, from elementary to college. God bless you Dr. Carson...and thank you for this book.

Ben Carson Is Ben Carson's Biggest Fan

Being a Conservative looking to improve my station in life and with Ben Carson being Conservative's flavor of the month, I decided to buy this book (for Kindle).
Early in the book, Dr. Carson writes of his rise from a poor student, last in his class in the 5th grade, to the top of his class a few years later. He even describes how he became self-centered during his high school years, something he still hasn't let completely go of.
As the book goes on, Dr. Carson doesn't miss any chances to tell the reader about his expertise and knowledge, especially when it comes to his medical achievements. As I read the book, my thoughts often wandered to, "I wonder when he'll brag on himself again?" Dr. Carson's middle name is definitely not "humble".
Still, the book has it's moments and mixed in between bragging on himself, Dr. Carson shows the reader that it is possible to come from the worst of circumstances in life, to being one of the most recognizable figures in the medical community (and politics?), incredibly successful, and that the American dream isn't dead; not yet, and that's where the book's value lies.

Dr. Carson not only has amazing stories to tell, but brilliant insights to share as he reflects on his experiences and achievements in life. I think this book is ideal for teens and young adults, but it certainly impressed on me, at 37, that I should not only continue to work hard, but should try new strategies to maximize my potential. Dr. Carson's emphasis on learning, critical and independent thinking, and reading are shared with examples that demonstrate the value these pursuits add to one's life. Additionally, he wants to empower every individual to believe that they are not stuck where they are, their fate is not determined, and they do not have to be products of their environment. He shows how the belief that his success was up to him inspires people everywhere to identify their talents, pursue what the enjoy, and write their own success story! Buy a copy for a nephew, daughter, brother, or teen growing up in a single parent home. It may provide the encouragement and revelation they need to become the next Ben Carson!
