About the Author
Bor-Yi Tsay, PhD, CPA, is professor of accounting at Kennesaw State University (Kennesaw). He has taught principles of accounting courses at the University of Houston and University of Alabama at Birmingham. He currently teaches principles of accounting courses in Kennesaw. Dr. Tsay received the 1996 Loudell Ellis Robinson Excellence in Teaching Award. He has also received numerous awards for his writing and publications, including the John L. Rhoads Manuscripts Award, John Pugsley Manuscripts Award, Van Pelt Manuscripts Award, and three certificates of merit from the Institute of Management Accountants. His articles have appeared in Journal of Accounting Education, Management Accounting, Journal of Managerial Issues, CPA Journal, CMA Magazine, Journal of Systems Management, and Journal of Medical Systems. Dr. Tsay received a BS degree in agricultural economics from National Taiwan University, an MBA degree from Eastern Washington University, and a PhD degree in accounting from the University of Houston.


Professor Olds, PhD, is associate professor of accounting at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). He serves as the coordinator of the introduction to accounting courses at VCU. Professor Olds received his AS degree from Brunswick Junior College in Brunswick, Georgia (now College of Coastal Georgia). He received a BBA in accounting from Georgia Southern College (now Georgia Southern University); his MPA and PhD degrees are from Georgia State University. After graduating from Georgia Southern, he worked as an auditor with the U.S. Department of Labor in Atlanta, Georgia. A former CPA in Virginia, Professor Olds has published articles in various professional journals and presented papers at national and regional conferences. He also served as the faculty adviser to the VCU chapter of Beta Alpha Psi for five years. In 1989, he was recognized with an Outstanding Faculty Vice-President Award by the national Beta Alpha Psi organization. Professor Olds has received both the Distinguished Teaching Award and the Distinguished Service Award from the VCU School of Business. Most recently he received the university’s award for maintaining High Ethical and Academic Standards While Advocating for Student-Athletes and Their Quest Towards a Degree.


Christopher T. Edmonds is an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of Alabama
at Birmingham (UAB). His focus is on new teaching pedagogies such as “flipping the
classroom,” competency learning, and online education. In his classes, students watch
lectures at home and come to class to work with others and practice skills. Although early in
his career, Dr. Edmonds has received multiple teaching awards and published several articles
in the area of accounting education. He has written articles that appeared in Issues in
Accounting Education , Advances in Accounting Education , AIS Educators Journal , and
Advances in Accounting.

Thomas P. Edmonds, Ph.D.: Dr. Edmonds is Professor of Accountancy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, (UAB). He has been actively involved in teaching accounting principles throughout his academic career. He has received several prestigious teaching awards, including the UAB President’s Excellence in Teaching Award and the distinguished Ellen Gregg Ingalls Award for excellence in classroom teaching. His academic experience includes being published in the Journal of Accounting Education, the Accounting Review, and the Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance among others. Dr. Edmonds received his Ph.D. in Accounting from Georgia State University.

This is a regular old textbook, with spine and cover hacked off, that has been very sloppily 3-hole punched.

Exceptionally Informative Content. Highly Recommend.

I have been a nurse for many years. I have never purchased this book during all the years of my nursing nor purchased it while in nursing school (the oooolllldddeeerrr version of course, lol). This book tells it all. I wished I had purchased this long ago. The tests go into great detail of what, how, why test are done. At this time I also have renal calculi. I am looking for new information on IVP's. I have had IVP's before, but I wanted to know if there were any new changes about the test. It explains in the book the reason's why an IVP is done, what is done during the procedure, how the patient may feel during the procedure, the side effects of the IVP such as having a reaction to the dye. Also explains what the patient needs to do prior to taking the IVP (24 hr prep). Tells you how long the time span from start to finish of the IVP.
This book covers everything about labs, radiology, etc. I just downloaded this on my Kindle, so I plan to do more reviewing when I look into it more. I looked over some of the labs tests and it goes into great detail of the tests.They even cover what color test tubes to use, if anyone is a new learner. I wished I had this a long time ago, working in ICU as we nurses draw labs on the patients and not the laboratory. It will give me more detailed information on labratory testing and any new changes. We have a lab book in ICU, but I swear it is not as good as this one. The book also makes it so easy to locate the information you need in a hurry.
I just wanted to get some type of review on here for people who are interested in purchasing the book.
So far I am very impressed and anyone wanting to purchase the book then I highly suggest you do. You can't go wrong with this book.

Pagana is a really good resource to have when you need to quickly look ...

Pagana is a really good resource to have when you need to quickly look up lab or diagnostic references. We are required to have this book and use it for our care plans in nursing school. While it is helpful, I do feel it doesn't break down the why's so much. Let me explain. If a certain lab value is off in a patient, let's just say potassium, it will tell you certain signs or reasons why it may be high or low like renal insufficiency. What it doesn't explain is how that renal insufficiency is influencing those potassium levels. At least not to the extent that is needed for my nursing schools care plans anyway. That is what made this book frustrating. If you just need this book for nursing school, by all means buy it here because it's about the cheapest option you will find. If you want it as a reference I suggest just using google.

This book has been very helpful while being in nursing school. I just wish it was written more like my drug guide having specific information in a chart type layout instead of a paragraph. There are some things I have noticed the book does not include leaving students to use google. It is however a pretty good book.

I didn't get much out of the book

I had hoped to use this in my business correspondences. I like the concept, but the book itself was extremely hard to get through. All of the personal stories (used as examples) and questionaires to fill out and then add up the scores got tiresome and in the end I really didn't learn how to read other people's personalities so much as I can tell you in detail about my own personality now.

Easy and funny read and much easier to understand than Myers-Briggs!

This is truly my absolute most favorite book. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've read it myself or gifted it to friends. It is written in a lighthearted and entertaining way that makes it enjoyable to read at night before going to bed. Mrs. Littauer divides the personalities into 4 groups and has a fantastic way of communicating their traits, strengths, and weaknesses. It basically delivers the same message as the Myers-Briggs but without all the complicated E, S, T, I, etc. It provides wonderful insight into your own personality traits and is wonderful at helping you see how and why other people do what they do and say what they say. For example, I am a strong 'melancholy' personality type and like to have things right and in order (even if it's my own sense of order). I literally laughed out loud when she gave an example of her husband, also a melancholy, instructing her on how to put the toilet paper on correctly. She didn't know it could be incorrect. I do the exact same thing, even in public places or other people's homes. I figure if they don't notice it's not on incorrectly, then they won't notice or care that I've corrected it. Hysterical. Also have a friend who can come across as a bit brusk or aggressive. This booked helped both of us see that her desire to get things accomplished can sometimes come across wrong. It's great it helping you tailor your message to the personality type of the recipient. You'll find yourself 'personality typing' all of your friends, etc. It helps explain a lot of the communication problems between people. This book is truly absolutely fantastic! Also, highly recommend 5 Love Languages to go along with it.

This book is for the analyst in training or the seasoned professional!

I bought this book while taking an online analytics class by Duke University. This book proved to be superior to others I looked at both in content and value. (the Kindle version) The author is a professional analyst and the insights provided aligned with and were confirmed by the content of the Duke class. Jane Crofts has produced one of the most practical and complete books for the analyst beginning to use Tableau in their work or in their studies. Since I bought the Kindle version, this wonderful resource was available in minutes and proved invaluable.

I felt this book was very superficial. It showed you how to do things, but it didn't really explain what you were doing. It didn't explain the various shelves, it didn't explain what a worksheet was, it just didn't go into detail at all. I've read other books on Tableau and have a general sense of the software, but even with that I found the examples hard to follow and confusing.

About the Author

Mark Dugopolski was born in Menominee, Michigan. After receiving a BS from Michigan State University, he taught high school in Illinois for four years. He received an MS in mathematics from Northern Illinois University at DeKalb. He then received a PhD in the area of topology and an MS in statistics from the University of Illinois at Champaign—Urbana. Mark taught mathematics at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond for twenty-five years and now holds the rank of Professor Emeritus of Mathematics. He has been writing textbooks since 1988. He is married and has two daughters. In his spare time he enjoys tennis, jogging, bicycling, fishing, kayaking, gardening, bridge, and motorcycling.

So far so good...

I really like the prerequisites sections because it reviews important intermediate algebra that you'll use in pre-calc. It's nice to flip to each section to get a quick reminder of the rules. I'm at the end of chapter 3 now and so far I really like this book but the advanced language could be a little difficult at times so there are some things that just go in one ear and out the other. In addition to this book I also have the solutions manual and the dvd from the publishers website. I really like the dvd since the things I sort of understand after reading the book is clarified after watching the section on the dvd. I wish every math book had a dvd to compliment the material. As for the solutions manual, sometimes it skips algebra assuming you already know how it's solved which is fine but sometimes it's a tricky problem so it would be useful to see the mid-steps as well.

All in all it's a great book. I'd recommend buying the book early to review the prerequisite sections before your school semester starts.

If you need the code for mymathlab.com dont buy this. I biught my book brand new and it didnt cime with the code. Wasted too much money. Just rent the book.

As a rental from Amazon, it came with the suggestion of keeping the box. Physically impossible to use the box to ship it back, as it was one of those boxes with a ripcord... Not reusable.

The book is exactly what I need. It's a math book, so I'm not much a fan, but the book does make it significantly less painful than other math books I've had.

About the Author
Thomas L. Friedman has won the Pulitzer Prize three times for his work at The New York Times, where he serves as the foreign affairs columnist. He is the author of three previous books, all of them bestsellers: From Beirut to Jerusalem, winner of the National Book Award for nonfiction; The Lexus and the Olive Tree: Understanding Globalization; and Longitudes and Attitudes: Exploring the World After September 11. In 2005 The World Is Flat was given the first Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award, and Friedman was named one of America's Best Leaders by U.S. News & World Report. He lives in Bethesda, Maryland, with his family.

The Book is Flat

The content of the book (the quotes occupy one third of the content!) can be summarized in a few sentences. 1) Computer technologies, automation, and especially the Internet have opened up new opportunities for everyone. We can be rich, we can work together. 2) Free trade and capitalism is the best solution to all the problems of the world. 3) America needs a better system of education. And that's it.

The World is Flat seethes from the excess of demagogy, which makes the author a great candidate for a politician. The content of the book is painfully outdated. Author instead focus on the mechanisms that shape the beginning of the twenty-first century, persistently presents case studies.

Conclusion; if someone wants to scramble through for more than 600 pages to find some valuable comments and bon mots, then I wish you good luck and a lot of patience.

The world is getting smaller

“Yes, the consumer in us wants Wal-Mart prices, with all the fat gone. But the employee in us wants a little fat left on the bone, the way Costco does it, so that it can offer health care to almost all its employee, rather than just less than half of them, as Wal-Mart does. But the shareholder in us wants Wal-Mart’s profit margins, not Costco’s. Yet the citizen in us wants Costco’s benefits, rather than Wal-Mart’s, because the different ultimately may have to be paid for by society.”

The world has changed and it continues to change and not in the notable, transforming ways history has seen before. Governments are not being toppled. Political revolutions are not exploding. But the power is shifting, it is shifting the people.
With the rapid rise of consumer technology, more people are connected than ever before. The world has become much smaller, or as Thomas L. Friedman says, “The world is flat.”

Consumers do not have to rely on the restricted knowledge of real estate agents to find the perfect home, as countless internet sites can show you the entire market. No longer do we have to drive from car lot to car lot to find a great deal on a used car. And no longer do you have to throw on a suit and walk up and down an office building looking for a job. The information has come to the people and the people have changed the game.

Now small companies with little or no capital can become a global player over night. Established companies have learned to adapt and quickly.

The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman is a very interesting read on the changing times. The latest edition of this book was written in 2007, right before the start of the great recession, so it would be interesting to see if Friedman’s thoughts were changed by this major market malfunction.

This book is good but a little long. Friedman includes a lot of interviews and anecdotes, however his stories do not have the power or sharpness of Malcolm Gladwell or the Freakonomics authors.

If you are an isolationist then don't buy this book.

I haven't even finished the book yet and i'm already regretting not having come across it sooner. This is something that should be required reading in high school, at the least. The book is well written, and the story flows in a nice way (so far at least) that keeps the reader interested. Unless you are some backwards Luddite then I would almost be willing to guarantee that this book will help you to understand the world as it is evolving to be, quite aside from how many people may have seen it coming, or even wanted it to be.
