The Duke stole my heart ❤️❤️❤️

First of all, can we please talk about this book cover. Now, I love seeing sexy abs on a hot, alpha male just as much as the next woman, but there is something even more enticing about a hot, alpha male in a beautifully tailored suit! Isn't it fun to imagine what hotness lies underneath those clothes?!?! Okay, enough about the cover...

Scarlett and Ryder. Their names sound so perfect together you can only hope that means the same for a relationship between them. Scarlett still feels the effects of a divorce she was blindsided by. She takes this sad energy and focuses on her career, needing to prove something to herself and her ex-husband. Although things in her business are going extremely well, her dating life is anything but ideal. Her sister convinces her to let lose and have a one-night stand, what could it hurt, right?!?!

Ryder can't believe when he's in a meeting the next morning that Scarlett turns out to be the one he has business dealings with. The funny thing is, Ryder is used to one-night stands but for some reason this feels different and he's happy to see Scarlett. The more he gets to know her, the more he realizes she is not like the other woman he's been with. Ryder finds himself in a sticky situation with his family estate and the only way to save his company and inherit everything he's worked so hard for is to get married. But, is Ryder really the marrying type?!?!

The two get to know each other and the chemistry you feel between them is OFF.THE.CHARTS. Their feisty banter only adds to the intense attraction they feel towards one another. Ryder has a plan and proposition for Scarlett, but can she really go through with it after the heartache she suffered after her first marriage coming to and end?!?

Louise does a great job of pulling you into the story, you can't get enough and the characters come to life! Their attraction for each other catches them both off guard and that makes the journey all the more fun! This is my favorite book from Louise. She totally delivered here and I could not get enough of Ryder and Scarlett.

Loved, loved, loved the Duke ❤️

A Duke Like No Other

Hat damn, just when I think I couldn't love Louise Bay enough, she goes and gives us a Duke!

A sexy, suit wearing, dirty talking, sultry smirk giving Duke. One that not only has a big package but know how to use it. Not to mention he's very talented with his finger and tongue too.

Ryder and Scarlett have a chance meeting one night and decide a delicious one-night stand would do them both good. The only thing they didn't expect was to come face to face the next day in a conference room. Both are in a bit of a jam in their businesses when Ryder comes up with a plan that could help them both out. And although Scarlett is reluctant, she agrees to this unconventional plan.

But what started out as a business agreement quickly turns into something neither expected. And when the tides turn and their arrangement is no longer need, will they walk away from their relationship or will they find away to make this a permanent situation?

I read this book from cover to cover in one sitting and would gladly do it again. I couldn't put it down and I really didn't want to. I loved they connection Ryder and Scarlett have, it's intense and all encompassing. Their passion is evident right from the start, but their is more to their bond then just what happens in the bedroom. It's all the little things they do for each other that draws the reader in.

Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of sexiness contained in these pages. Ryder's got game and he knows it. He maybe a little cocky but that works to his advantage. It's easy to see what women swoon and panties melt whenever Ryder comes around.

Scarlett is a force to be reckoned with, she isn't some meek woman you can push around. She knows what she wants and is more that willing to do the work to make it happen. She's a strong, independent woman who's smart. kind, and always willing to lend a helping hand. I admire the love she has for her family and friends.

Duke of Manhattan is a thrilling, sultry, spellbinding book that will leave you smiling, utterly satisfied, and still yearning for more.

I never thought I'd say these words, but the Duke may have replaced the King in my heart. Ryder is almost perfect.
Louise Bay is a wonderful storyteller. I get sucked right into the lives of her characters, and laugh and cry right along with them. Ryder and Scarlett have become one of my favorite Bay couples. Their physical chemistry and emotional connection is off the charts amazing!

Ryder is successful, sexy and strong-willed, and a perfect match for Scarlett. She's an independent woman trying to balance her partnership in a perfume business and her not so successful social life. Divorced and disillusioned, she hasn't found anyone worth spending quality time with. Her business partner dares her to hookup with a stranger, and that's when she meets Ryder...

Ryder has his share of personal problems, namely saving his business and family fortune from a no-good cousin who's in line to inherit...unless Ryder marries before his grandfather passes. Meeting Scarlett just might solve everything!

With a solid storyline, passionately descriptive scenes, and an emotional connection to the cast of characters, I have to count this as one of my top reads this year!

Awesome modeling book

I have over 30 Origami books, with varying authors like Montroll, Brill, Lang, Yang. I've made many "purist" models (1 square, no cuts, no glue). This book is not a typical *purist* Origami book. There will be many sheets of paper, cutting, and gluing.

That being said, it's by far my favorite book (hardcover too!) for aircraft models, (and I have many of those too). All the aircraft in this book are models of REAL planes, no hokey fictional aircraft like Firewalker, Blue Raven or some other silly name the author decided to pull out of a hat, no, these are planes like the F-18, F-35, F-23, SU-27, F-14, Saab Viggen, F-15, E-2C, C-5 (really!) C-130, A-10, and even a P-47 Thunderbolt. When using a 8.5" x 11" paper, the models end up slightly larger than a 1/72 scale for the fighters, and about 1/100 for the cargo planes.

The models are extremely well detailed, albeit comically with the large canopies and enlarged nosecones. There's instructions for accessories like missiles, bombs, trailing edges, winglets, intakes and exhausts. The bombs and missiles alone will take about 60% of the work, as the pieces are very small and need to be glued together. You could of course, leave them out, but what's an F-16 without the wingtip missiles? Realism is what we're trying to achieve here.

All the plane parts are created with squares of scale size (1, 1/4, 1/16) that are folded from a variation of one fold (he calls them "kites") while making the models you'll have about 20-30 kites, all of varying sizes and slight differences to be glued together into a final product.

Keep in mind, its a "modeling" book and not a paper airplane book. None of them fly.

I kept looking for instructions to make a stand for the models he has illustrated but he doesn't seem to have one.

I would like to see a Volume II, as more aircraft would definitely be welcome. Planes like F-4, F-5, A-4 Skyhawk, A-7, A-6 Intruder, a few more centurion series like the F-100, and maybe even a WWII Volume. I'd definitely buy more of this type of book.

A neurologist who claims to be equally interested in disease and people, Sacks (Awakenings, etc.) explores neurological disorders with a novelist's skill and an appreciation of his patients as human beings. These cases, some of which have appeared in literary or medical publications, illustrate the tragedy of losing neurological facultiesmemory, powers of visualization, word-recognitionor the also-devastating fate of those suffering an excess of neurological functions causing such hyper states as chorea, tics, Tourette's syndrome and Parkinsonism. Oliver Sacks as Edgar Allan Poe

This is my first book by Oliver Sacks. I must admit I was expecting more science, less "novel." Dr. Sacks writes in a literary style and loves multiple complex sentences that make the argument indeed richer, but also intricate. So, if you want a simple reading, you'll be a little surprised.

The book consists of four parts:
1) Losses
2) Execess
3) Transports
4) The World of the Simple

Each section relates to a different set of neurological problems resulting in a mental disorder.

1) In the "Losses" the author describes nine cases.
"Neurology's favourite word is 'deficit', denoting an impariment or incapacity of neurological function: loss of vision, loss dexterity, loss of identity and myriad other lacks and losses of specific functions (or faculties)."

2) In the "Execess" find five "stories".
"What then of the opposite - an execess or superabundance of functions?"
and next
"... we consider their excesses - not amnesia, but hypermnesia; not agnosia, but hypergnosia; and all the other 'hypers' we can imagine."

3) The chapter "Transports" describes six cases.
"...'transports' - often of poignant intensity, and shot through with personal feeling and meaning - tend to be seen, like drimes, as psychical: as a manifestation, perhaps, of unconscious or preconcious activity..."

"...to be seen as psychoses, or to be brodcast as religious revelations, rather than brought to physicians."

4) And at the end of "The World of the Simple" (four "stories"). Dr. Sacks describes cases of people whose neurological disorders outfitted with extraordinary abilities, such as "seeing the numbers," eidetic memory, an excellent sense of smell, etc. (Ie. brilliant savants).

In his book, Dr. Sacks often refers to the study of well-known Russian psychologist A. R. Luria.

Dr. Sacks style of reasoning, not everyone will like it. Besides, there are many similar books, though written from a different perspective than neurological such as "Tales from the Couch: A Clinical Psychologist's True Stories of Psychopathology" by Dr. Bob Wendorf.

Great gift for potential med/neuroscience students

I first read this book in a college Intro to Neuroscience class, and I've been a Dr. Sacks fan ever since. It was sad to hear of his passing recently, but it also reminded me what a great book this is for any potential neuroscience or even more general medical student. I purchased this copy as a gift to a graduating high school student who has expressed an interest in neuroscience. Although most of us will change our minds over the course of college, this is still a great book for getting acquainted with the subject and some of the interesting things that can go wrong with our brains.

The thing I like about this book (and all of his books) is that they manage to do justice to a complex topic while still remaining highly accessible to people of average intelligence and background knowledge. Sacks was also a great writer, with that rare and wonderful ability to know what's interesting about a topic and weave a compelling story. It's a shame he's no longer with us, but I'm sure this book and many of his others will continue to delight curious readers for years to come.

Great stories that tie together really well

A very well put together collection of stories about unusual changes to the brain... The two points that I really felt were driven home through these stories are:

1. The human brain is not some sort of organ separate from our soul/consciousness/self. It IS our consciousness. When it gets changed, we are changed. I think a lot of people implicitly think of the brain as just something that memorizes dates and facts for school, and don't really think of it as the core of their self.
2. The brain, while impressive, is not really a truthful measurement machine. In reality, it's kind of slapped together from a bunch of co-processors and self delusion to make us think our senses are telling us the true story of the world. If one of those co-processors is damaged, weird stuff happens. For example, the title story. The brain does not observe impartially. Human faces are not processed in the same way that hats are processed. If that part of the brain is damaged, then one can, indeed, mistake their wife for a hat.

One minor nitpick I can think of is that the author spends a lot of time grandly editorializing about the philosophical implications of the stories after telling each one. I would have preferred to keep this a bit more minimal and let the stories speak for themselves - they are full enough without him pointing it out. Another thing that personally kind of puts me off is the fact that the whole book is predicated on the Freud/Jung school of psychology, which I think too often was not really based in observation and scientific method. I am sure you can find all sorts of half-truths and unsupported claims in the book if you really start to dig into and research the stories. Still, it makes for great reading.

And that's the thing; this is chiefly a pop-psychology book. No matter the minor flaws in writing, or patchy science, or flawed observation, it doesn't strongly detract from the central ideas of the book. I would consider this book one of the few universally important books I've read, because the stories themselves cut so close to the core of our life experiences. Not just in the obvious ways (ex. trying to explain to a child why Alzheimer's disease is affecting their grandfather), but also in understanding why we are the way we are.

Sorry, I just realized I made myself guilty of "grandly editorializing about the philosophical implications of the stories"... It's hard not to do!

Smart, sexy and so fun

This book is really inspring and fun to read. She expects the reader to be more--be transformative, disturb the normative. She sets the example by taking a lot of risks as an intellectual who believes unconditionally in the powers of (re)reading and (re)writing. I love to read this book while working on my dissertation! I'm a Korean American mama, and this book helps me think through non-queer non-latinidad material. Every other page, there's a hysterical joke. Too funny--everyone knows only a real genius can pull off comedy.

Latin@s del ambiente meet cultural studies

Professor Rodriguez is trying to answer what phenomena constitute "queer Latinidad" and what do these phenomena signify. Therefore, she analyzes the HIV prevention organizatoin Proyecto Contra SIDA in San Francisco, the political asylum case of gay Brazilian Marcelo Tenorio, and LGBT Latin@ chatrooms. She describes these phenomena as "subjects in process" in order to avoid the traps of essentialism and identity politics but to promote the transgressive and postmodern qualities of the aforementioned events.
Rodriguez makes her knowledge about Latin American history and politics obvious. This book equally mentions Latin@s in the US and Latin Americans outside of it. By mentioning a Brazilian asylee, her Spanish internet lover, the independence debates on Puerto Rico, and Chicano clubs in the Bay Area, Rodriguez proves her commitment to pan-Latinidad. In many books that address racial and sexual minorities, only one gender is featured. Manrique's "Besame Mucho" or Moraga's "This Bridge Called My Back" are examples of that. Rodriguez, however, brings up people of all genders (and there are more than two) here. Further, this book mentions gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, and the transgendered equally. Thus, I understand her use of the controversial term "queer." The author is just pretty darn inclusive.
Given the three phenomena she analyzes, the reader can easily tell that Rodriguez is trying to expand the perameters of what is considered cultural studies. She cites critical race legal theory which is surprising because critical legal theorists usually already borrow so many ideas from traditionally-trained academics, like herself, outside of the law. The book is short in page length, yet it still takes quite a while to read. The bibilography is a great guide for works by "queer" academics of color.
Rodriguez is an extroverted, sex-positive lesbian academic similar to Gayle Rubin, Joan Nestle, and (as of late) Lillian Faderman. I think her students will be shocked at how open she is about her sex life in this text. On the back cover of the book, Jose' Quiroga praises her writing. Rodriguez writes in an exhaustive fashion about cultural products just like Quiroga, so I wasn't surprised to see his name here. I don't mean to imply that LatinAs can only imitate their white female or LatinO counterparts; it's just that her influences in this book stand out.
The front cover of the book shows a split papaya (or guava?). She informs us that this is a poster for San Francisco's Proyecto, but its symbolic representation of the female body is quite lesboerotic and reminds me of Georgia O'Keefe's flowers. The front and back covers are red, gold, and purple: a somewhat loud clash of colors. It somewhat reminds me of the Venezuelan flag, but Rodriguez states that she is Cuban-American. I think the vibrant color scheme is meant to represent the ideas of Latin@s as being lively and living in warm climates.
I really liked this book, but I do have to make two warnings. First, the reader should know in advance what this text is. THIS IS A VERY ACADEMIC CULTURAL STUDIES TEXT FROM A PhD. Though Rodriguez proves that she is very knowledgeable about "queer" Latin@ organizing, this book does not answer "How to start a Latin@ LGBT club," "Who's Who Among Gay Latin@s," or "What is the history of Queer Latin@ Activism." Potential readers who assume this book is a repeat of "Compan~eras" or "Chicana Lesbians" will be disappointed.
Additionally, many of Rodriguez's analyses could be interpreted differently. For example, she states that gay Latino academics (like Mun~oz and Quiroga) transgressively "queer" scholarship by discussing more than one medium within the same text. Well, given that homosexuality was the love that dare not speak its name and that the subaltern had no voice (as writers have mentioned in the past), it's not surprising that academics have to glean from what they can find in order to discuss "queer" Latin@ cultural works. What she thinks of as subversive, I think of as a reflection on oppression. Still, this was a great work.

Queer Latinidad!

The glistening ripe red papaya on the cover of Queer Latinidad is a suggestive image for a powerful discourse of how identity intersects with sexuality and culture. Focusing on case studies in activism, immigration and cyberspace, Juana María Rodríguez examines queer "latinidad," which is defined beyond geography, language, and history to encompass complexities such as race, legal status and (post)(neo)colonialism. Written from an insider's point of view-the author is a Cuban lesbian activist scholar-this book is full of references to Latin@ lesbian and gay organizations, events, icons, artists, activists, and political issues. While this is in itself significant, Rodríguez furthers her work by giving serious consideration to real-life spaces such as bars and courtrooms and real-life documents such as e-mail messages, flyers, and retablos. She does this with an engaging writing style that is poetic, personal, philosophical and theoretical. Well-documented, the book includes informative notes, an extensive bibliography, and an exceptional index that even has listings for yuca, dildos, and La Lupe. While the central text is written in English, the book includes many passages in Spanish that are immediately followed by the English translation. A valuable contribution to scholarship in cultural studies, queer studies, women's studies, and Latin@ studies, this book is highly recommended.

Alfred W. Crosby is a Professor Emeritus in American Studies, History and Geography at the University of Texas, Austin, where he taught for over twenty years. His previous books include America's Forgotten Pandemic: The Influenza of 1918, 2nd edition (Cambridge, 2003), Throwing Fire: Projectile Technology through History (Cambridge, 2002), The Measure of Reality: Quantification and Western Society, 1250-1600 (Cambridge, 1997). Ecological imperialism: The biological expansion of Europe, 900-1900', by A. W. Crosby, is a cogently argued and well written book. The main thesis of the book is that the expansion by Europeans to the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, and a few other enclaves (what Crosby calls the Neo-Europes) wouldn't have succeeded if the biota the Europeans brought with them had not succeeded. This biota included not only humans, of course, but pathogens, weeds and grasses, and horses, cattle, goats, and pigs, among the most important. Crosby addresses the reasons why this biota was so successful in the new territories, and concludes that, in general, the climatic regimes there were sufficiently similar to those of its European origins and the indigenous biota was so 'naive' that 'victory' was almost assured to the invaders. To be sure, this is not an original conclusion, but the wealth of data Crosby uses, along with his synthetic power and sense of humor, makes of this book an enjoyable and thought-provoking read. People interested in searching for the biological causes of the successes (and failures!) of Europeans in the world should read this engaging book.

He differentiates the Neo-Europes from a place like South Africa

In his book, “Ecological Imperialism: the Biological Expansion of Europe 900-1900”, Alfred Crosby gives a robust historical account of European imperial conquest in the places he calls Neo-Europes. He defines the Neo-Europes as places outside Europe, where European flora and fauna, including humans, supplanted native once, as a result of European colonial incursions between 900 and 1900. He differentiates the Neo-Europes from a place like South Africa, where Europeans only dominated politically, but could not transform the entire landscape to resemble that of mainland Europe. The crux of Crosby’s account is that European imperialism was successful in the Neo-Europes – North America, parts of South America, Australia, and New Zealand – in the scale that it did, not because of European military and technological might – as has been the dominant explanation – but because of ecological and geographical fortuity.
Crosby tries to answer the questions why and how people of the European race – unlike other races who are sited within given spatial gamut – are settled in various places, distant to each other, across the globe. Obviously, scores of people must have crossed the seams of Pangaea to these continents, but how? Crosby answers this question with a good history of navigation, which involves the discovery of the physical geography of the sea and an understanding of the global wind system – the key to the success of navigation. The discovery of the behavior of the oceans by the ancient explorers and the marinheiros made mass immigration possible.
With regard to how European flora and fauna came to dominate the Neo-Europes, Crosby gives credit to the climate as well as European weeds, and feral animals. Once the New World’s ecology had been disturbed, weeds of European descent shoved the native flora aside and created fertile grounds for European organisms to thrive. The argument is that weeds do well in lands that witness dramatic disturbances; hence, the grazing of European animals and the felling of trees for timber disturbed the new land – erosion. Weeds then took over these disturbed lands and stabilize them by covering up the soil against erosion and the scotching sun, creating much more fertile soil for European plants and grazing fields for European animals.
According to Crosby, the coup d'état that led to the obliteration of native populations in the Neo-Europes, and led a successful demographic take-over by Europeans, was not successful because of the brutality and superior weapons of the imperialist, but it was a concealed lethal weapon –disease – which they carried unknowingly that brought them victory. Native populations in the Neo-Europes lived in pockets of sparsely populated settlements, and largely engaged in hunting and gathering. This way of living made them vulnerable to new germs and diseases. The lack of success of European imperialism in places such as Africa and Asia, According to Crosby, was due to their resistance to European germs, and the presences of equally deadly disease, which the Europeans stood the chance of contracting. The explanation given for this is that Asians and Africans, like Europeans, lived in compact settlements with domesticated plants and animals, which exposed them on a constant basis to germs and diseases that developed from that way of living. As a result, they eventually developed some resistance to these germs and diseases. This comparison of the Neo-Europes with Africa and Asia, in my opinion, makes Crosby’s argument more plausible. If indeed, it was the superior weapons of the colonialist that led to the creation of the Neo-Europes, why was the situation different in Africa and Asia? According to Crosby, the natives of the Neo-Europes, already thinly populated, succumbed to European disease such as small pox, measles, dysentery, catarrhal jaundice, whooping cough, mumps, tonsillitis, and host of other diseases. Already weaken by diseases; the natives could not put up any meaningful resistance to European imperialism. In a nutshell, Crosby gives credit to European organisms – weed, feral animals, and pathogens – for the European imperial success in the Neo-Europes. He described these organisms, which he calls portmanteau biota, as working as a team to usurp the native biota for the eventual Europeanization of the Neo-Europes.
Crosby account does away with the usual misconception that natives lived in total harmony with their environment. Although the scale of native impact on the environment – the first wave of invasion – may have been much less than the European invasion – the second wave – they nevertheless left ecological footprints. This book also gives a background to western economic dominance over the rest of the world, as it talks about how they were able to appropriate resources from distant lands. The holistic approach Crosby adopts in his account, in my view, makes this book appealing and readable across disciplines – as a geographer, the chapter on the winds was particularly very informative to me, as I have known the direction of the global winds, but not the history behind their discovery. I also took some biology lessons from reading this book; particularly, the behavior of weeds and pathogens.
In one of the chapters, Crosby compares European weapons to those of natives, in an effort to downplay the issue of superior weapons as the main driving force of European imperialism. Although the Europeanization of the Neo-Europes had nothing to do with their superior weapons, the military might of the European colonialists cannot be belittled. What explanation will be given for European political dominance elsewhere? I believe Crosby could have still made a strong case for disease without drawing this comparison.

A quick and fascinating jaunt through 1000 years of history

Alfred W. Crosby earned his BA from Harvard University in 1952 and, after a 2 year stint in the US Army he went on to earn a Ph.D. from Boston University. Over the next 40 years he worked at several universities including Ohio State and the University of Texas, from which he retired in 1999 as Professor Emeritus of Geography, History and American Studies.
In Ecological Imperialism Crosby argues that a major aspect of European imperialism, actually the major aspect, is not their military superiority, which, in some ways, can be seen as over exaggerated. Instead their success in displacing native peoples in the Americas and Australia is due to environmental and biological factors. Crosby notes, “it could only be accomplished by exploiting the ecosystems, mineral resources, and human assets of whole continents outside the lands of the society making the jump.” (xviii) Thus, the spread of Europeans themselves, along with their disease, flora and fauna, over the entire planet, go hand in hand.
To support his argument, Crosby discusses the appearance of virulent disease in the Middle East, something he notes arrives with the Neolithic revolution. Unfortunately for the peoples who would settle in the Americas and Australia (native Americans and Aborigines), this took place after they had become isolated from the peoples of the Eurasian landmass. He then goes on (in Chapter 3) to use the Norsemen and the Crusaders to show the importance of not only technology but disease to the ability of Europeans to conquer large swaths of the world. The Medieval Europeans were unsuccessful in their attempts to conquer Vinland and the Middle East because they were up against peoples with the “advantages of prior occupation and more nearly perfect physical and cultural adjustments to the environment…”(69)
In his chapter on Winds (Chapter Five) Crosby adds details to the story of how Europeans became blue water sailors (a skill even the Vikings lacked), details often left out of the traditional accounts of the Age of Exploration as well as a detailed (and succinct) account of how Europeans unlocked the puzzle of the oceanic wind systems which would help them “close the seams of Pangaea” and bring “all oceanic coastlines and their hinterlands” within grasp. (131-133) Continuing with this story, Chapter Seven is where Crosby begins to detail how Europeans began to make “Neo-European cities of” harbors and shorelines from Sydney to San Francisco. And, as he notes in Chapter Eight, just as the descendants of the Marinheiros learned how to adapt and cross the oceans in mass, the passengers on those ships would have adapt in order to live in the lands across said oceans. However, instead of adapting themselves to their new home, they would adapt the land and make it more Europe-like by brining European crops and animals with them. Crosby does note that some of the side effects of this exchange (such as the spread of feral pigs, cattle and even rabbits in some areas) might have been unintended, but in the end, the neo-Europeans were the ones to benefit, intended or not.
Historiographically speaking, this book is an important contribution to the literature of World History, and its’ influence can be felt from books such as Guns, Germs and Steel to 1491 by Charles Mann. Furthermore, Crosby offers historians another lens with which to analyze world history: ecology. Unfortunately, the influence has not spread too far beyond the profession, as many textbooks (even the World History curriculum in Texas) does little to mention the effects of germs on world history. Having said that, the idea of the “Columbian Exchange” is mentioned in both the Texas World History curriculum and the Advanced Placement curriculum, and as new generations of historians are trained one would expect “ecological and biological” lenses to be used more often.
There is little to criticize the author for in this work. His writing style is such that the book is readable by both professionals and the layperson alike. The most interesting aspect of this book was the intervention the author is attempting to make on how we view European imperialism. Most historians have viewed European success as a result of their military acumen and/or their use of technology. Crosby acknowledges that, to some extent, this is true. However, he notes that one must not dismiss the effects of germs. Finally, his logic is sound. When he mentions the lack of success the Crusaders had against the Saracens thanks to the fact that the latter was used to the harsh climate and virulent bugs present in the Levant, it is easy to follow along and difficult to find any holes in his argument. Thus, the book is easy to read and presents an argument that is solid and, almost 3 decades later, enduring.

About the Author

Colonel McLyman has forty-seven years of experience in the field of Magnetics, and holds fourteen United States Patents on Magnetics-related concepts. He retired as a Senior Member of the Avionics Equipment Section of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) affiliated with the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California.

This is a great reference book for magnetic circuit design, and it looks good for beginners too. Lots of good ideas and suggestions.
