My favorite novel

If there were more stars, I would give this book more. Garcia Marquez's writing is just exquisite -- just study the opening paragraphs of this book.
He captures the atmosphere of this Caribbean part of Colombia masterfully using his magic realism style. It did help that I have a wonderful Spanish teacher who explained the connections and allusions to me. A visit to the region only intensified my love for this novel. I have a hard time though deciding whether I like Cien Años better or Love in the Times of Cholera. they are my two favorite books and I have read both several times in Spanish and English. It's even better in Spanish.

A master piece

I was wondering how would have been to read this book in the original language. It has been tough but indeed worth it to read.

Marquez crate a chain of events that make the reader willing to read a little more so that you don't feel the pages flow under your fingers but it makes you feel the story like we were watching a movie printed on pages.

Even without knowing all of the immense numbers of adjectives (Spanish is not my first language) which enrich every single pages, Marquez style of writing makes you understand anyway the profound essence of his sentences.

The author dedicate profound description even to the characters that don't play a main role, making them part of the whole picture, without whom it would not look so great.

Pages are pregnant of symbolisms and hidden meanings. Colors, characters, animals, objects are there for a reason, not just as embellishment.

This is a remarkable master piece, as few in the modern literature. Make your self a favor and read it.

Está escrito en un lenguaje muy llano y, aunque se pueden ver algunas conexiones con trabajos previos de ficción de otros autores hispanoamericanos, tiene muchos elementos originales (al menos en su énfasis), que han llevado esta novela a representar el "realismo mágico" por excelencia.
El nacimiento, apogeo y muerte de Macondo se puede interpretar como una metáfora de la vida humana.

Terrible textbook. This is the first time I bought ...

Terrible textbook. This is the first time I bought a second textbook that was not required to study for my exams. Hadley is discontinued, but the best source for learning Endocrinology. Kovacs text is wordy, poorly organized, and has almost no visuals. You can't teach science effectively without visuals.

Just a bunch of info with little to no cohesion

The book is full of complete and acccurate info, but its more like reading a fact list or a chart than reading an actual book. Also dont worry, there are various pages dedicated strictly to charts and graphs, probably a solid 10% of the book. The problem is they are compressing too much info into too small an area. I would rather the book be double the length and explain in more detail what is going on, than what it is now. The Hypothalamus produces chemical A. Chemical A reacts with compound B. Compound be clings to receptor C, activating and releasing messenger D into the blood to find target organ E. Next topic, the hypothalamus can also produce Chemical A1. Chemical A1 reacts with chemicals B1, B2, B3, and B4-alpha ... etc.

There is no cohesive goal, nothing holding these topics together, no overall flow of understanding what is happening and why. If the authors would like this book to only be used as a reference material, then its fine and accomplishes that job. But if this book is meant to teach a student as an introduction to endocrinology, it fails miserably and falls flat on its face. While taking my grad endocrinology course I was forced to use google and wikipedia on every topic because no one would explain how these processes work, they just tell me that they do. Its like when a child asks a parent "Why does it work this way?" and the parents response is "Because I said so." Thats about on par with how useful this book is.

If the field of endocrinology is just supposed to be rote memorization, then ok, I'm in the wrong field. But in order for me to learn and understand something, I need all the data, not just the facts.

They only sent 1 volume out of 2. I don't think Amazon are aware that this publication comes in a series of 2 volumes. When asked, they would not just send the other volume due to "company policy". I had to send this large and heavy book back to the US. They reimbursed me fully however.

Excellent Textbook of PM&R

This is one of the great standard textbooks of PMR which has been used all around the globe, both as a textbook and as a reference book. With online access you will always be up to date and will have online access from any computer with internet access.
They have added new topics in this edition and this book rocks
